Our hike on Beacon Rock started about 7:00 PM, so we were a little concerned about being locked on the wrong side of the gate.

Beacon Rock was purchased for a dollar by a guy in 1915 and he finished the trail in 1918. And now, his descendants have donated the rock to the State Park system. It is an amazing trail. The trail goes one long mile up around the face of the rock. Here is a picture of one of our hikers that made it to the top.

The trails all had good rails that allowed most of us to feel fairly safe going up the trail.
This is a picture of Beacon Rock from the bottom. It is a huge rock that really stands out along the Columbia Gorge.

Tracy and Cheridy going down the switchbacks on the trail.
When we started out one in our party was excited to go for a hike, but once she found out that there were some extreme heights involved she was very apprehensive about the hike. By the end of the hike, Cheridy was moving along without too much fear. At first it was a little hard to convince her that she would be okay.
